About this piece
This piece is about how no matter our efforts life does not always turn out the way we want and we must keep striving no matter what. Tying knots is an old way of counting days, marking events, it may also be interpreted as making each day count.
We tie each day.
“Work hard” is what they say,
toil your bones away,
they tell of gifts bestowed
on those who holdfast dear,
yet all is not all,
there is light,
and there is absence,
We tie each day with a single knot.
We dream of dreams, of far lands of bliss,
of answers, for every asking,
whispers: “this...for that”
Straw of orchid,
feather of hawk
to work into cord,
to loop into net,
draw in the light,
and mend the rift we cannot close,
Life: a mirror of the real,
We tie each day with a single knot.
Try. we dare to halt the tides,
the weave of fate we fail to twine,
strand by strand,
unravelling at the end,
We tie each day with a single knot.
In this world and the outer world,
striving, dwelling our days as we must,
with the sun inside of us,
giving life, sharing fire,
for the greater all,
One more moment.
One more chance,
a hope
to hold on,
We tie each day with a single knot.
Wth all the strength
of sky and sea,
we bespeak,
and bind tomorrow to the sun,
set in stone be our resolve,
let this be our sound of One:
We tie each day with a single knot.
