About this piece
My submission is about the advice given to me and my siblings that we held to and passed on to our children and grandchildren. It is also about what a Caribbean mixture of persons we are but joined in love and ended with the advice of a united Caribbean stands stronger.
Aim high, go to school and do your best, each generation must improve on the rest. We all married young and we all achieved our goals. Being steady and positive was the way to go.
Trust the Creator, depend on His guidance and follow it to the letter, and you will see you will always be the wiser.
Coming from a mixed family, we are quite a Caribbean pot of love. Great grandmother from Guyana, grandmother from Barbados, and I married a Vincentian and have step grands from Trinidad. Some of my siblings did similar and married a St. Lucian, a Jamaican, a Guyanese and a Barbadian. But one thing that went from generation to generation was advice to go to school and do our best.
Our children took the lessons well and went to school and did their best. each child's ability is different, but we always stressed that each do their best. No comparison, just do your best and God will do the rest.
We have a pot of different careers to include a Manager, an Admin Officer, Nurses, a Lawyer, Teacher, Pharmacist, Supervisor, and Counselor and the list go on, whatever the career, the advice has always been the same. Put God first and lean not to your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. Guided by Proverbs 3:5-6 in the King James Bible.
Our grands are given the same advice, worked once, worked twice, we believe it will work thrice. Love and advice are keys in our lives, does not matter from whence we came, all Caribbean is one Caribbean and though different are very much the same.
Separate we are but a dot on the map, but together, in unity we are more.
