About this piece
The poem was written based on the skill that has been threaded in my lineage, the experience that binds the Fifty-six state and the experience that connect my country to the common wealth, ending it with an issue that needed to be addressed, with the hope that it will be resolved.
THREAD
We are known for weaving Asọ́ Òkè(Wrapper),
Ìkàré, a town with different culture,
Our bloodline weave cloth of different colours,
This was from the days of Ojú Dúdú(Dark Age),
It carries a story that lies beyond it past,
Generations after generations were being imparted with the skill,
Maybe, because my ancestors were slaves,
But, the knowledge they had was being shared,
Pass down to us,
But, civilisation has come,
Making us forget what was being handed to us.
Back are the days when war was still ranging,
Fifty-six state has once thirst for peace,
They called it, world war 1 and world war 2,
Or back in the days of Hitler,
Africans were also crying for freedom on their side,
The battles were tough,
Blood were being shed,
No one is safe, they said,
Run for your life,
But some heroes laid their life for their beloved country,
Not knowing whether they are going to make it or not,
Left their families and friends,
For the call of duty,
Just so, peace could reign,
History will never forget them.
Every year, trees are planted in Nigeria,
Based on the Commonwealth idea,
An activity that involves both youth and old ones,
Plant trees, let save lives,
Plant trees, let save mother earth,
Plant trees, let stop the river changing people's fate,
Plant trees, let stop deforestation,
Plant trees, let support the ozone,
They joined hands together to save thousands and not just millions of people.
But, the hausa men still cries,
They cried for their lands and effort destroyed by their enemy mister flood,
For what is now the gain of their labour,
They cried for it carries their flocks,
Like the urban area,
Full of dirty waters,
The villagers cries,
But, who is going to save them?
