The World Needs Healing
Looking out from here in Nampula, the horizon looks gray. It’s not just the weather; it’s what I feel when I stop to think about the direction the world has taken. Honestly? It feels like we’ve lost our way. I look at the news, at the media, and what I see is a civilization that calls itself "advanced," yet only knows how to build missiles, drones, and heavy-caliber weapons. What is this technology for? To destroy lives with the coldness of a robot. Progress that kills shouldn't be called progress at all.
While we blow fortunes on war machines, our forests are disappearing. The result is right there: the climate has gone crazy. The heat burns our skin and the rains, which used to be a blessing, now threaten us every minute. Where was our head when we thought we could beat nature?
And then there is this global economic crisis. It doesn’t look at maps, but I see it clearly here, in Mozambique and across Africa, the impact on the plate of the working person. Prices skyrocket, unemployment tightens, and poverty becomes the daily norm. It is an invisible war pushing us toward the abyss, while the powerful discuss geopolitics in air-conditioned rooms.
It hurts to see the inaction of those who should be protecting human rights. People are dying like sheep in a slaughterhouse, and the institutions are just there, stuck in bureaucracy, releasing reports that don't save a soul. Who can we turn to?
We forget that we are all one single soul on this earth. What happens far away resonates in our own chests. If the forest burns over there, the air I breathe here gets heavier. If a child goes hungry because of a conflict that isn't even theirs, a part of me dies too. We are all connected.
We need a revolution, but not one of weapons. A revolution of character. Real development isn't having the biggest army; it’s having a people with dignity. It’s time to stop and look at the person next to us. No more walls. If we don’t unite now, the abyss will swallow us. The healing doesn't come from outside; it begins when each of us decides, for real, that the other person matters just as much.
