About this piece
A poem that describes the spiritual journey of the soul through four states - waking, dream, deep sleep, and turiya.
The Motionless River
(1)
Dusk descended a moment past
On treetops, the receding sunbeams lingered,
Inky air breathed exquisite peace,
Beneath the shady neem, I sat still,
Eyes half-closed, easy and simple posture.
(2)
My breath grew even and slow
Unlike other evening, no stirring within,
Tranquillity deepened, ever deeper,
Enveloping my whole existence softly,
Inner solitude flowed like a river, motionless,
(3)
Consciousness – neither inward nor outward
Blissfully oblivious to all around,
Even time and space fell away,
External impressions vanished without a trace,
Changeless, ineffable, luminous – the Self shines.
