The Green Thread of Life
Festo Alphonce
Tanzania
About this piece
A poem exploring the invisible bond between humans and the forest. It depicts the roots of our trees as the threads that sew our environment together, reminding us that we are all part of one living tapestry
I found a thread, thin and green, connecting us all.
It is not made of silk, nor is it spun by hand,
It is the pulse of the forest, breathing life into the land.
From the roots in the soil to the leaves in the sky,
Every branch is a stitch, every river a tie.
When we plant a seedling, we mend a broken seam,
Weaving back together a planet and a dream.
We are the weavers, with stories left to tell,
Protecting the shade where our ancestors dwell.
One thread of hope, across the Commonwealth sea,
Connecting your spirit to the heart of my tree.
