About this piece
This piece is solely painting a gruesome picture of the Nigerian state. A place that is known to be a rich country of poor people. Though neck-deep in a cesspool of hopelessness, we are still hopeful that Nigeria will be better.
THE GIANT OF AFRICA (NIGERIA)
A giant stooped beneath a sky
that forgot its promises,
his back a map of old betrayals.
Names carved into him by brothers who sold tomorrow for today.
His wrists remember being shackled by rope
not always from strangers.
He walks still, dragging the rusted chains of borrowed greed, his feet sinking in the soft ground of “almost” and “not yet,” His breath thick with the dust of squandered dawns.
But listen...
Beneath the wound, something drums.
A pulse older than plunder. A stubborn fire that refuses to learn surrender even in the face of insecurities, depraved lawlessness and corruption.
