Lofted through time.
Fibers woven through
shared experiences
and collective struggles
that display themselves
in diverse tongues:
Creoles that illustrate
every obstacle overcome.
Cadence and character creating pictures of
various backgrounds
knitted into a mixture
pieced together from
frag / ments of understanding
and desire for communication;
Birthing frissons of synergy in syntax
Retaining history in vocabulary
Paving progress in phonology.
Crocheting culture
with a defiance that
derailed master plans
of massa’s rule over man
maintained today in
movements draped in grace
that captured
legacies of rebellion and change;
Identity spun with intricacies
of tenacity and pride
that straighten spines
and square shoulders.

Lofted through time.
Strands that sing songs of
Fidelity.
Community sewn from
differences and similarities
plucked from soils of geography
and stitched with oneness of mind
and firmness of spirit
stringing smiles that never waver.
A story framed
In success;
Anchored in determination,
Blood, sweat and tears.
