About this piece
This piece explores belonging between two cultures, showing how moments of division can coexist with connection—like life stitching us together, one thread at a time.
Stitched Together
In the stadium, a boy sat beside me, his face painted half green, half red. Nigeria on one cheek, Morroco on the other. When the goal went in, he clapped - then froze, as if he had revealed a secret. His parents laughed and pulled him between them.
I recognized the confusion I grew up with, crossing quietly from one color to another. Football tries to divide us for ninety minutes, but life keeps stitching us back together.
Perhaps, Africa looks like that boy - colors running into each other, unsure which side to cheer yet belonging fully to both.
