About this piece
When do what they do best for the common good under uncertainty, it's for the benefit of the company, the community, the nation of Cameroon and the world at large. It is with that understanding that resilience is not only achieved but shared across those within and those without.
To the International Labour Organization and all guardians of labour dignity across the world:
From Ndian to Pamol, and to every working community whose effort sustains economies beyond the spotlight, this message carries a simple truth: labour is not an abstract input—it is lived human endurance, creativity, and sacrifice.
For roughly nine long seasons, workers in these communities have continued under conditions of uncertainty, yet their resolve has not collapsed. It has adapted, persisted, and reorganized itself into something stronger than hardship: collective resilience in motion.
This is not silence. It is labour speaking through persistence.
As we mark Labour Day / May Day 2026, the call before us is clear. The future of work must move beyond survival cycles and reactive protection into structured dignity—where rest is not a privilege, rights are not negotiable, and productivity is never extracted at the cost of human wholeness.
Let this be a signal to global labour systems:
Decent work must be continuous, not conditional
Protection must be proactive, not delayed
Well-being must be structural, not symbolic
And no worker should have to carry the weight of systems alone
