About this piece
It's about shared humanity and community in a Caribbean-Commonwealth setting, showing how small gestures: nods, greetings, eye contact, create meaningful connection. Rooted in vibrant local imagery, it links everyday moments to a wider shared heritage and quiet, unifying warmth.
Here, We See Each Other
Morning light spills over a busy road,
a nod, a “mornin’,” softly bestowed.
Eyes meet, brief, but never stray,
we stitch our lives in passing day.
A vendor laughs, a hand waves near,
small gestures say, I see you here.
Through Caribbean breeze and market sound,
warmth is a language passed around.
Across these isles, through distant lands,
a shared inheritance joins our hands.
Echoes of Commonwealth of Nations ties,
woven in greetings, voices, eyes.
No grand display, no shouted claim,
just quiet warmth in each one’s name.
A thread that runs from sea to sea,
binding us all in humanity.
