Written piece
Condolences

About this piece
Condolences was written from the perspective of a spirit ascending-crossing from the physical into heavenly realm. It was born out of personal loss, inspired by the passing of my mother. In grief, I found myself confronting not just absence, but the question of what remains.
CONDOLENCES
by Paul Mckoy
I laugh
You cry
Condolences
I am the gift of music
Dance… dance… dance
On the hope of another sunrise
And in sunset, I glow in your eyes
Dance… dance… dance, I say
I move like churning sand
in the music of each rolling wave
I laugh
You cry
Condolences
I am the choir in the wings
given to the breath of the trees
I laugh
You cry
Condolences
I am borrowed dust
returning to settle the earth
Your tears water the roots
of your new truth
Go. Bear fruit.
I laugh
You cry
Condolences
