About this piece
Honeycomb is a poem about my family and how, my parents, decided to name their children Yoruba names, which, when translated into English, mean honey and symbolises sweetness. The honeycomb shows us how passion flows through people; it brings us together.
Shared faces, smiles and eyes
Shared gaits and bounce
How we walked in sync
How we talked in sync
How our voices merged into one sound
How my love for books and dance
Started from my mother
Passed on to the other, me
How our love for music
Was because of our father’s tune
Our names dripped in Honey
Because two people decided to come together
How my love for the Arts
Was passed on from generation to generation
Connected
Breathing life into each other
I looked behind me
I realized there were many of us
With more to come.
