Written piece
Resilience Through The Missiles
ADEH DORCAS-BERTILLE
Cameroon
About this piece
A reflective poem on pain, memory, and survival, weaving images of loss, homeland, and Identity. It shows resilience through grief and conflict, ending with hope for unity and healing in a dividing world.
When the cold comes, it comes without warning.
It comes like an earthquake in the dark, a quarrel of missiles, gunshots tearing through the night sky, like a shooting star.
From the wounded streets of the Gaza strip, to quiet villages where mothers wait for footsteps, that may never return.
It crosses oceans, touches the trembling borders of Cameroon , lingers in the hills of the Northwest region and the forests of the Southwest.
where ten long years, have taught even the wind how to mourn.
Yet still,
I will not stitch silence.
I will bind the names of the lost carried like light.
I will stitch them beside the songs of strangers across the commonwealth, stitches of grief, hope and courage, carried in many tongues.
And when the world shivers again, as it always does.
May this quilt remember us, not as a world divided by war, but as hands that chose even in the cold, to sew the world back together.
Piece by piece by peace.
